I’ve always loved painting roses. Their round shape made them seem less intimidating than something like a daffodil, where it’s easier to mess up the proportions. This bouquet was a grocery store mix that I was instantly drawn to because of the colors. A lot of my earlier work seems to have a good amount of red/orange hues bouncing off their complimentary colors of blue and green. This is the first of two paintings I made of this bouquet, the second one is a bit larger. I love the vivid, sharp roses against the softer, more pastel hydrangeas.
